"Mihály Apafi Psalter – The first denomination of the small sheet depicts the Psalter containing the Book of Psalms of King David, bound in deep red leather with a metal clasp with floral decoration and a gilded fore-edge. Miklós Misztótfalusi Kis had the book printed in Amsterdam for the Prince of Transylvania, Mihály Apafi I, in 1686.Graduale Pars II – The second stamp design shows the illuminated initial letter of the second volume of the book of rites containing the alternative songs for mass. The codex, from the library of King Matthias of Hungary (1443-90), is one of the Library’s most richly decorated pieces, which contains, apart from the initial on the title page, 46 large figurative illuminated initials and several smaller ones. Standard of the Civil Guard of Pest – An object of rare beauty from the Hungarian National Museum’s permanent historical exhibition is featured on the third stamp, an embroidered silk standard with the painted and embroidered coat of arms of Kossuth (a leading statesman of the time), the contemporary coat of arms of Pest and the Hungarian crown in the middle. On the reverse of the standard from 1848 there is a depiction of the Madonna. Holy water basin – The Byzantine silver gilt vessel on the fourth stamp of the small sheet bears Greek inscriptions and came into the collection from Beszterec in Szabolcs county in 1903. The floral ornamentation of the hexagonal vessel resting on three lion’s feet is a typical example of the elegant style, which spread to Europe from the Far East. In the background of the edge of the small sheet there is a detail of the deed of foundation of the public collections. Decorative features of the edge include inscriptions referring to the anniversary, the buildings of the National Széchényi Library and the Hungarian National Museum as well as a portrait of Count Ferenc Széchényi. The horizontal perforations of the small sheet below and above run to the sides, while the vertical perforation is only imitated at the top. On the special cover for the small sheet the founder Count Ferenc Széchényi is depicted, and the graphics for the special postmark are decorated with a parchment referring to the public collections.
