Our living heritage
"The stamp design of the numbered block features mangalica pigs. This large-bodied pig with slate grey skin is typi-cal of Hungary, Romania, Yugoslavia and other south-eastern European countries. There are three varieties: mainly white, red, and the “swallow-bellied” with a light belly. Its origin can be traced back to the Serb sumadias pig. The Hungarian mangalica pig resulted from crossing this pig with the indigenous Bakony and Szalonta pigs in the mid-19th century. The design of the first day cover for the new stamps shows cikta sheep, while the special postmark is adorned with other stylised animal motifs. "
