Animals of the continents (IV) - Australia
"Duck billed platypus When English scientist first saw this creature in 1789 they thought somebody was playing a joke on them. They thought that the jokesters had sown the various parts of the animal together: duck bill, beaver tail and fine mole skin fur. Their disbelief is no surprise, especially if you take the fact into consideration that this strange animal suckles its young after they have hatched from their soft shelled eggs. The last animal which can be seen on the stamp is the herbivore ground bird from the plains of South Australia, the emu. The cover for the special edition stamp booklets is decorated with tüskés ördög."
