Balassagyarmat, the bravest town

130 HUF

ITEM NO: 2008011090011-

" The town earned the distinguished epithet Civitas Fortissima (the bravest town) on 29 January 1919, when courageous armed volunteers forced back the invading Czech border guard to the far side of the river Ipoly. In recognition of this heroic deed the town has also officially borne this title since 1998, i.e. ten years. On the picture side of the postcard there are photographs of the sights of Balassagyarmat and watercolours by the painter Zoltán Réti showing the old town and local sights. The stamp design of the postcard depicts the deed be-stowing the title of the bravest town and the town’s coat of arms."
